Background Notes

In addition to light, Epiphany texts speak about following Christ in all types of circumstances. Those whom Jesus called were asked to “come and see,” to drop their nets, and to engage in work that was difficult and countercultural. As with many of these other hymn texts this year, these verses name the different ways in which current and pressing problems call to us, guide our response, and name the hope we are promised.
